Rockin' '50 - Early '60's style classic and original Doo Wop, Rhythm & Blues
Lil' Mo and the Dynaflos came about one night around 2004 at the World Famous Derby Club in Los Angeles as "Lil' Mo" Morris Everett and Cliff Quan discussed their love for Doo Wop music. Lil' Mo, being a veteran of previous vocal groups and Cliff, being an avid Doo Wop listener and rockabilly guitar player in the LA band “The Hellzaboppers”, decided "Why not give it a go ourselves"? The rest is history!
The original group consisted of 5 vocalists and 4 musicians, whom Cliff recruited from the creme of the crop of L.A.'s Rockabilly and '50's Rhythm and Blues scene. Unlike other vocal groups, Cliff's idea was to make the band an integral part of the group (instead of a vocal group with a back up band). This idea was to form the structure and sound of "The Dynaflos". The current line-up consists of 4 vocalists and 4 musicians.
The Dynaflo's set consists of some obscure 50's-60's Doo Wop, some standards and a growing list of original tunes. Something for everyone! They blend their style of 50's, 60's, Doo Wop and R&B, with an upbeat, rockin' band. Combine that with a high energy stage show and you'll find one undeniably fun, hard working, Doo Wop Rock n’ Roll group that is hard to ignore. They are becoming high in demand at car shows (Viva Las Vegas Car Show, John Force Holiday Car Show, Grand National Roadster Show, Sacramento Autorama, The National Collector Car Appreciation Day Car Show, OCCA Labor Day Cruise, Hot August Nights,-Reno), swing dances, parties, clubs, weddings, etc... and have played six very successful shows overseas including Spain (The Screamin’ Festival), England four times (The Rhythm Riot and Don't Knock the Rock Festival), France twice (Bethune Retro Festival) and Italy twice (Sh-Boom Doo Wop Festival). They have played in some capacity, at least 12 times at Viva Las Vegas Weekenders and have performed as the backing band to acclaimed UK vocalist Si Cranstoun, original ‘50’s doo wop artists Norman Fox (“Tell Me Why”, “Dream Girl”, “Pizza Pie”), Cleftones singer Herbie Cox ("Heart and Soul", Little Girl of Mine", "Can't We Be Sweethearts"), The Jive Five's Eugene Pitt ("My True Story", "Tick Tock", "Happy Man") and Bobby Lewis ("Tossin' and Turnin", "One Track Mind"). They performed at the 2nd Annual Rhythm Collision Weekender in January 2015 and in 2016 they performed in Mexico City, Mexico to a enthusiastic crowd and in early 2017 they performed for the first time in the far east, Tokyo Japan! Their original music has been used in movies such as Lionsgate Film's "The Winning Season" and highly acclaimed independent film "The Deuce of Spades" and they were one of only 11 bands selected to record their version of the song "Viva Las Vegas" for the 20th Anniversary free CD giveaway for Viva Las Vegas 20.
They were signed to German record label “Rhythm Bomb Records” in 2013. Their discography includes 6 CD’s (Lil’ Mo and the Dynaflos, In 2nd Gear, 3rd Time’s a Charm, Original Hits Vol. 1, Street Corner Sessions and Get Up and Dance) as well as numerous compilations and one “Greatest Hits” 12" vinyl LP.
In 2019, original bass player Martine left to concentrate on his family.
Moises Melchior from the popular East LA R&B Rockers "Los Rhythm Rockets" stepped in as our new bassist.
After 14 years in the band, Vocalist Dave Bertiz is moving to Italy at the end of 2024, to start his next chapter of his life. We are excited to introduce our new Vocalist "Miss Mac" Shannon McDonough. Many of you may know her from the popular band "The Moontones". She will divide her time between the "Tones" and the "Flos"!
